GOING UNDER THE HOOD

IFC's Grupo Mujeres recently spent a Saturday morning with the good folks at Andy Shaw Ford in Sylva to get a crash course in essential automotive maintenance. Twelve members of IFC's women's group learned about some of the keys to keeping their cars and trucks up and running - from checking the oil to learning how to read an inspection report.

The visit allowed the women to ask lots of questions, like what to do if the car overheats, what do some of the warning lights mean (and "how long can I drive with that warning light on!"). All of the women agreed that this was a great learning opportunity and have asked to go back to Shaw later in the year for some additional training.

Over the next three months, the women's group will participate in a mental health workshop with The Counseling Center, have a survival hike with the Highlands Cashiers Land Trust, and renew their First Aid and CPR certification with Southwestern Community College! For more information about the Women's Group, feel free to email our social worker, Karla Magaña at karla@internationalfriendshipcenter.org.
