Food & Literacy

Thanks to a generous grant from First Bank, the International Friendship Center and the Literacy and Learning Center of Highlands are collaborating on a youth cooking project held at the LLC. The center is hosting six-week semesters to teach children, teens, and their guardians the essentials of kitchen and food safety and how to improve wellness through cooking.

The classes are coordinated with existing afterschool and summer programs for ages 6-15 at The Literacy Center of Highlands. The curriculum, provided by the IFC, focuses on healthy eating that is affordable and accessible.

“Our goal is to empower children and their families with the skills to eat healthier, even when working with a small budget. Our cooking classes will focus on teaching students to shop smarter, use nutrition information to make healthier choices, and cook delicious, affordable meals.”
